Blade Shape Optimization for Cooling Fans

The expected performance from a cooling fan depends on the conditions in the region it is supposed to cool. Mainly the temperature is the dominating variable in this process. This project aims to develop an optimization methodology which would yield an optimum blade shape for an axial fan with fixed rotor radius and fixed number of blades.
Blade shape generation for an axial fan.
Mesh generation and CFD solutions for the generated axial fan geometry.
Automated geometry and mesh modification for optimization studies.
Coupling the flow solver with an optimizer.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Interest and knowledge in programming and computational fluid dynamics.
- Interest in using Linux based open source programs. (OpenFOAM and Dakota)
