2D Analysis of Cross Flow Fan Embedded Airflow

The main priority in aircraft wing design is providing high lift to drag ratio. Cross-flow fans satisfy this request due to its compactness and ability to provide high pressure coefficient. Flow can be distributed, lift can be increased and drag can be decreased with different configurations. However, the flow is not fully circulated at high speed and losses occur due to compressibility. Therefore, the efficiency does not go up after a certain point. In this project, a fan embedded airfoil will be modelled and analyzed as 2D to achieve the best scenario for different fan operating conditions with computational fluid dynamics. The main purpose is achieving good propulsion by obtaining high lift and low drag forces. Both steady and unsteady state analysis will be done. Results will be compared which are obtained in different operating conditions.

Volkan Özgen received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Yeditepe University in 2016 ¨ and started graduate education without any break. Besides his graduate education, he is currently working at UMTAS¸ Uluslararası Anonim Şirketi which is carries on the business of various machine – equipment trading and providing installation and after sales service of these equipment.
